Difference Between launch x431 V V4.0 and V5.0

The LAUNCH X431 PRO3 (V+ 5.0) supports extension modules to enable more comprehensive vehicle inspections.

1. Variant Coding (Offline Programming)

Compatible with FORD, Mazda, Vauxhall, Opel, and others. Variant coding programs ECUs to match specific vehicle configurations—such as left-hand vs. right-hand drive or automatic headlight activation requirements. This includes enabling or disabling software-driven features based on regional or model-specific needs.

2. Guided Functions

Available for Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, Seat, and more. The guided function acts like an expert technician, eliminating the need to search for channel numbers or login codes. It provides step-by-step instructions for auto-login, matching, setup, and coding tailored to each vehicle model.

3. IMMO Keys

For Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, SEAT, and others. Allows disabling lost keys to prevent theft, adding new keys, and matching replacement IMMO modules. For advanced IMMO programming, pair the X431 V+ with the PROG-3 Key Programmer.

4. Component Matching

Supported across Volkswagen, Škoda, SEAT, BMW, GM, FORD, Opel, Mazda, Fiat, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru, and more. The X431 V+ scanner performs comprehensive diagnostics across all major vehicle control units—including Engine, ABS, SAS, Transmission, Fuel System, Emission System, and Body modules—eliminating the need for multiple tools. It automatically identifies the VIN upon connection for intelligent, vehicle-specific diagnostics. The tool reads all OBD2 trouble codes, displays live data PIDs in graphical format, records sessions, and supports bi-directional controls, actuation tests, and all standard diagnostic functions.

Active Test & ECU Coding

Active Test (Bi-Directional Control)

The LAUNCH X431 V+ diagnostic tool supports active testing—also known as bi-directional control—to request data or command vehicle modules to perform specific functions. For example, using OBD II generic Mode 1, you can request information from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), which then sends the data back to the scan tool for display. This device can also actuate relays, fuel injectors, ignition coils, and initiate system-level tests.

AutoAuth Service – Access 2018+ FCA SGW Modules

This all-car diagnostic scanner integrates the “AutoAuth” smart solution, enabling full diagnostic capabilities on 2018 and newer FCA vehicles equipped with Secure Gateway (SGW) modules. You retain the same functionality as with non-SGW vehicles—including clearing codes, performing service functions, running active tests, actuating components, and executing relearns.

ECU Coding Functionality

Each automotive actuator stores a unique record code in the ECU, which the vehicle’s computer uses to coordinate operations. The LAUNCH X431 V+ includes advanced ECU coding capabilities to address the following scenarios:
