VAS 5054A Description

The VAS 5054A is a universal diagnostic interface designed for vehicles of the Volkswagen Group and all OBD-compliant vehicle systems from other manufacturers.

Its integrated Bluetooth interface enables wireless communication between the vehicle and a notebook, desktop PC, or test system—eliminating the need for physical cables during diagnostics.

The effective wireless Bluetooth range is 2 to 5 meters, depending on environmental conditions and the type of Bluetooth adapter used on the PC side.

Data transfer occurs via the Serial Port Profile (SPP), with support for multiple Bluetooth security levels.

VAS 5054A Technical Specifications

Vehicle communication protocols are processed directly within the VAS 5054A unit, ensuring fast response times and reliable real-time performance independent of the host PC’s operating system.

Upon each connection, the VAS 5054A identifies itself using the software version installed on the application PC, automatically enabling any new features introduced by updated software.

The diagnostic application and its associated Diagnostic Base System are installed on the user’s PC and can communicate with the VAS 5054A via either Bluetooth or USB.

Access via Bluetooth

Once connected, the Bluetooth stack creates a virtual serial COM port (using the Serial Port Profile). The Diagnostic Base System uses this COM port to interact with the VAS 5054A. This port must be specified during diagnostic application setup.

Access via USB

The VAS 5054A can also be connected directly to the PC using the included USB cable. Windows automatically detects the device via Plug and Play and installs the necessary drivers that were copied during the diagnostic software installation. After this, the VAS 5054A is ready for immediate use.

I purchased a VAS5054A clone advertised as a 'full chip' version with UDS support and an OKI chip.
